You're starting with a false premise, I do not have to prove there is no God in order to claim there is no God.
If I told you there was an invisible troll who lived under your bed, how would you prove me wrong, or why should you have to?
The burden of proof is on the one who claim the existence of things invisible.

Despite some of the other posters, who do not know what logic is, you are correct: To assert as a fact that there is no god does require a godlike knowledge of the universe. As for the scientific method being the "glory of man" while religion "only brings war..." This person needs a history lesson. It was churches that founded many of our great universities, that took up the fight against slavery, that empowered the civil rights movement, that smuggled Jews out of Nazi Germany, etc. And wasn't it scientists that invented the nuclear bomb? Didn't science give us chemical weapons? The claim that one is worse than the other is immature and baseless. The common thread is that man has the power to do good or evil with a church or science, and which hypothesis (say Christianity or science) explains best why that is? Answer: All men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Science cannot explain what we all know is true. P.S. I am a scientist and a Christian!

Wouldn't your own claim have to be true of someone who claims there IS a god? That would also apply to one saying that there IS an omnipresence, as then one would have had to see or know that such a presence exists.
It's a backward type of logic to say one can only believe in god if he/she has an omniscence or omnipresence. It's an interesting argument, but one that can be argued in both directions.
I call myself an atheist because I do not believe in the possibility of a supreme being and I do not believe that the bible is more than a book. I don't mean to be insulting to anyone, but that is what I believe. It doesn't make any kind of logical sense to me that a god could exist, and all arguments FOR a god seem to be rooted in the belief that life in general is simply too complex to have existed on it's own. Or else the arguments seem to have too many holes in them for me to believe otherwise.
Those are my feelings, although I can see that they differ from your own quite immensely. I hope you can respect that those beliefs are grounded in some type of logic, education, and experience that have led me to believe the way that I do. I will not try to change your own beliefs or intentionally disrespect them. This post is meant as a reply only, and not as an insult.
Thanks.

I think the philosophical point you are looking for goes something like this... As you can neither prove or disprove the existence of God, doesn't it take just as much faith to be an Atheist? I believe in evidence, cold, hard, repeatable evidence. If someone some day can provide this for a Higher Power I would examine it thoroughly. I tend to like Trickle Down God theory. I'll put a post up to see if anyone knows about it.

I don't claim that THERE is no God ...
I claim that if there is a God he is eitheir ilogical or felingless = an imperfect beeing who tolerate injustice (oh right we invented "a day of judgement" to fit in the theme) dosen't deserve any admiration or whatever are you feeling for him.
And yeah for hundred of ants i can be a God if i like the only difference is that i don't punish them if they don't worship me.
God may be perfect or not
but we live in a imperfect world for sure
God may be or not
but sufference is for sure, the fact you choose to ignore it or find explainations for it dosen't change this harsh reality.
welch_girl_74 > egiptians constructed pyramides, chinesse built the great wall, mayans built beutifull cities also in the most extreme econditions (deserts , pole) people lived and still live without any divine intervention from your "god"

Zo:
I think your logic is slightly flawed. It is kind of the opposite of the fella who asked me "If God can do anything - can He make a stone so heavy He can't lift it."
Truth is, there are things God can't do. He cannot go against his nature. He cannot abide sin, and that is the reason for the gulf between man and God. We are sinful beings, and without the sacrifice of God's son, Jesus - we would never be able to be right with Him.
But the question of whether or not there is a God is a good one. It is however, not likely to be answered afirmatively by those who don't know Him and is unlikely to be proven by rhetoric.
As it says in Corinthians: "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned."
On another tack, it says in Romans: " For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - His eternal power and devine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made (creation, nature, etc.)."
As most people today have little contact with nature, living in cities and having little contact with flora or fauna, it is little wonder they doubt the existence of God.
A few years ago I took a British man from Sussex, an atheist, on a Canadian canoe trip. It was a very beautiful area of lakes, rivers, and waterfalls, and we saw almost no one else during our trip. We had to cut the trip short however, as the man became overwhelmed by the the beauty of God's creation. He said, "I've never been out of sight of building before in my life. If I stayed out here too long, I'd have to believe as you do."
You see, he'd been in the service, as a Royal Marine Commando, and had served in Northern Ireland, had killed people, and had his friend killed. He decided there could be no God if such things were allowed to happen - imputing the actions of men to God, if there was one - never understanding God has given men free will.
I could list a thousand things that have happened to me - that prove to me the existence of God, but none of them would prove His existence to anyone else.
To believe in God always requires that "leap of faith." As it says in Hebrews: "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the essence of things not seen. ..." Without taking that leap of faith, the mystery of who God is - can never be known.

You're assuming that atheists are claiming to know something that must be taken on faith. But when discussing religion, we talk of believers and non-believers. I am an athiest because I do not BELIEVE there is a god. I do not claim to have hard evidence of this fact.

It is up to the person who makes extraordinary, unproven and unverifiable claims to come up with the evidence that will make these claims believable.
I have yet to see any verifiable evidence that God exists. Does this make me think I'm God? Of course not!
PS: I also know there is no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy, but I don't claim to be either.

There is no church of atheism.
Why the hell would we be searching for the proof of something we don't believe exists.
God is YOUR obsession and preoccupation. Not mine.
There's no way to prove a negative. Even though a Biblical God is a walking contradiction, you can still withold your belief in metaphisical aporia in other dimensions we can't contact. Great.
Trying to reason about how WE'RE irrational is really idiotic.

Your first statement is incorrect. I claim there is no God because i do not personally find sufficient evidence in the Bible to believe so. I should probably lable myself as Agnostic but I don't think I could ever be convinced, so i call myself an Atheist.
PS, dont be so full of yourself.
