I am currently on Depo Provera! I hate it! I want something I don't have to remember to take or do. My gyno suggested an IUD! I am seriously thinking about doing it but I am still concerned. Do any of you women out there have this and what do you think about it? Likes and dislikes! Thank you!

Talk to your Dr about the Mirena IUD. There are a few different types of IUDs that I believe can last anywhere from 3yrs-10yrs before you need to replace it. I feel IUDs are better because you're not flooding your system w/ synthetic hormones, and unlike regular forms of birthcontrol you can have the IUD removed at anytime after insertion and be fertile almost immediatly instead of having to wait for anything extra to work itself out of your system. The Mirena has a small amount of hormone in it that is slowly released just into your uterus, so it's not messing w/ your overall hormones, to prevent eggs from being implanted. The Mirena is also only good for 5 years. The only other one that I'm familiat w/ is a copper based one called the ParaGuard. The Paraguard is completely hormone free but has a bit of copper wrapped around it that prevents eggs from implanting and does last for 10 years. This one tends to cause heavier periods w/ more cramping and is not an option if you have any metal allergies. HTH!

I have never used one, but you should really get the facts -- IUD's have really awful side effects (i.e. they can actually tear your uterus and make you sterile), and have even been outlawed in some places. Get the facts before you decide, and get them from an independent third party, not from the doctor who is suggesting it.
