It's a different type of strategic thinking.
One involves having complete information, the other involves incomplete info.

In chess, you have ALL of the information you need to make a decision. You know where all the pieces are, and you just have to make the best move. There is no luck. You make a mistake in your planning, and your opponent will show you the error when he beats you.

In bridge, you don't have all the info.
During the bidding, you and your partner have to find the best contract, despite not knowing what cards your partner has.
During the play, you have to play the percentages sometimes:
You have the AQ. Is the K on your left or your right?
You have 9 trumps. Did the other 4 break 2-2, or 3-1, or does one opponent have all 4 trumps?

Personally, I prefer bridge.
.
In chess, you can make a small mistake on move 10, lose a pawn, then spend the next 2-3 hours trying to make up for it, but you're still stuck a pawn down.

In bridge, you can make a small mistake early on, your opponents get an extra 100 points, but then 5 minutes later, it's time to shuffle up and deal, and that mistake 2 hours ago won't directly affect how you play the new hand you have in front of you.

Chess requires more strategic thinking, in that you plan out your attack and defense several moves ahead.

Bridge requires more logical thinking, in that you use clues from the bidding and play of the cards to figure out where certain key cards must be, then play accordingly.

I love both games, but I'm more active in bridge these days.

Chess does. You have to plan numerous moves in advance.
