The 1978 classic TV series was so whiz-bang cool--and highly ambitious for it's time. Looking back on it today: I can see they traded the deepthought political dynamics for what the writers and producers felt was more audience acceptable, for understandable reasons. Just as they attempted to tap into such intellectual resources--the series was cancelled, sadly.
Today's BSG: sharply different, grittier, darker; it's subtle parallels with the classic version have sharper edges. You get the heightened sense of fear and desperation being on the run from impressively on-target, driven robotic machines intent on killing out your human race entirely.....perhaps sparing just ONE....perhaps.
Since it's rebirth two years ago, I've NEVER missed an episode; it's one of the rare few series I have dedicatedly followed and avow to until the full completion of the story itself....which I hope is NO time soon.
Now, the humans are in a real jam: habatating a "new" homeworld that, by surprise, got taken over by Cylons--without squeezing off one shot! Baltar's out of the frying pan and into the fire now: interesting to see how his troubles unfold. The humans have no been backed in the corner for way too long now: will be interesting to see them take the only recourse--fight their way out savagely.
I also am interested in seeing the humans really kick some Cylon butt; bite back hard with a vengance--and getting a Cylon view of the whole war perspective; we've clearly seen the human side of the conflict.
Oh....almost forgot: only THREE secret Cylon/human models walking around; any ideas on WHO those three are?????

It remains to be seen whether it is still a good show. I am afraid that they may have jumped the shark at the end of last season when they dumped them on a planet and then had the Cylons show up. It could either get interesting or stupid now.

I think it's one of the best shows on TV. A scifi show that is character driven? Who would have thought! I think they made a great decision in focusing on characters and letting the action (amazing as it may be) be a byproduct of the characters. I can't wait for October!

the original show (back in the 80's) was better - this one tries too hard with the wobbly camera shots which I find annoying

I love it! It has action, mystery, and romance all in one. Plus, I am a sci-fi geek, so I love anything like that.
