It's probably not possible at this point in history. Nationalistic feelings are just too strong all over the world right now. No one wants to surrender their sovereignty to one world government. Observe the large amounts of discontent over the actions of the UN and the EU.

Theoretically it may be possible. But in reality there is so much fighting going on between different groups of people I don't know how they would get along long enough to form one country.
