who really knows when america was discovered? the first records from the western world of its discovery are from some time around the year 985 when vikings found what they called "vinland'' referring to the large amount of grapes they found growing there. In 1492 the buthcer columbus sailed the seas of blue as they say and found people already living here. The fourth of july celebrates the signing of our independence from the british empire. Oh joy, its so different.

Although Christopher Colombus is credited with "discovering" America...he never actually reached the mainland. Fourth of July is the day that Declaration of Independence was signed. July 4, 1776 declaring Independence from Great Britain.

America was discovered in 1492, and the declaration of Independence was signed on the fourth of July, 1776. It basically decleared war on Britain. They didn't actually gain their independence until the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The Constitution was signed in 1787.
