ALL obsessions are bad, they take away your time mental and physically, but....if there's a choice to be made it would be football, because it takes away time from the family that is precious (unless it's a family thing) and shoes can go in the closet or on the feet and the mind is still there for the entire world to enjoy. If a man can watch football (or a woman, in my case) and still not ignore the special people in their lives, then go for it! If the shoes keep her looking at her shoes and not at you, throw them out. Obsessions are killers of life and mental capacity, so maybe you used too strong a word here.

I'm a bloke who can't stand football, and while it's incredibly irritating around the world cup season, what with tv, radio and most conversations about football, I'd have to say that a woman's shoe obsession is worse, as it's overly expensive.

As a woman, I've got to say shoes - my obsession is costing me a fortune.
Does anyone know of a good therapist dealing in shoe obsession?

Obsession in itself is the demon. Each individual has his/her own level of obsessive behavior. It would be ignorant to say shoes or football, which is worse. With drugs or alcohol you have users and abusers. The same holds true for anything we can obsess over.

Both are stereotypes. I do not have an obsession with shoes & I am a woman.
And I know plenty of women that loves sports almost as much as their husbands.

Shoes, because it's only about an object of status. Football is about achieving goals. It takes many attempts to get a first down (in football) just like achieving a goal in life. Sometimes you breeze one by (an 80 yard pass) but most of the game will represent life's struggles (the ground/running game). Everyone likes to see the overcoming of the struggles of adversity.

I think it's equal. I could easily spend on shoes what season tickets would cost and do as much damage to my feet as playing football. Just ask my podiatrist! I even broke my foot last summer falling out of a pair of cute heels on the stairs in the dark! Besides, if it weren't shoes and football it would be make up and power tools. *laugh*

Either could be very annoying to the opposite sex, but I don't think you can generalise that much. Not all men like, or are hugely excited by, football, and lots of women are like me, and only buy shoes infrequently, I don't think I've bought any since last summer.

Probably equal, depending on how you look at it.
I mean men end up paying pretty big bucks for season tickets or the cable/satelite hook up to see the games. And women spend big bucks on all the latest and fashionable shoes. Either way it can be draining on their bank accounts.
But the way I Iook at it women get more use out of their shoes than men get out of football.

Definitely the football. The fans get all het-up about what is, after all, only sport - and when their team loses they feel BAD. Shoes however can be worn time and time again and make you feel GOOD! Also, when shoes are finished, we don't have a year-long autopsy about the whys and wherefores .....
