I just read a question having to do with why people ask (or tell) who is gay in the music industry. First answer out of the box is, "homophobic, I guess." But that assumes that when someone asks, it is because they want to disapprove or dislike the person if they are gay. Big and I think erroneous assumption. But I've never understood "outing," I believe in closets. Not just for gays, but for all of us. Privacy is important, and we should cherish it.

But does "homophobic" really mean afraid of gays, or disapproving of gays? If so, why throw it around so cheaply every time the very word "gay" is mentioned? Perhaps the people who want to know if so-and-so is gay are gay themselves!

i think,
homophobic is overused and cliche.
the term homophobic to me represents someone who is so repulsed or cares "just a bit too much" about what someone does in the privacy of their own bedroom.
you see, when some folks hear someone is gay, they automatically get a visual of their sexual act, and they are turned off, or they are turned on, on a deeper level, of which they can not and will not admit. to me these are the people that are homophobic.....afraid of it like its contageous, or that they might like it. there is an old shakespearian quote, "me thinks thou doth protest a bit too much"
think about it?
who needs to be that wrapped up in someone elses business?
heres the deal for me, im not condoning it, but its not really any of my business. when i think of someone being gay, i dont automatically think pervert, i think about the fact that it is their choice to LOVE someone of the same sex. whether they are confused or should be judged is up to God.

to my understanding phobia is fear and and reading the word is fear of gays. Personaly i have that phobia but i treat it as i do with most phobias that i can control. snakes for example not really afraid of them just their bite. i know that example is a lil harsh but first thing that came to mind. chances are is they're homophobic 98% chance they will always disapprove of gays. the rest will either stop fearinf eventually and respect them and or just build a higher tolerance. As to why people continue to ask not sure i figured by now they adopted the military rule dont ask dont tell policy.

There's no such thing as "homophobia."

It's just a term made up by advocates of the gay political and social agenda.

They made up the concept in order to make their opponents seem inferior and afraid (hence the "phobia") for the purpose of silencing them.

Phobias are bona fide psychological conditions, formally defined by medical professionals -- but they've never defined the reality of a condition known as homophobia.

Except in the fevered minds of the "gay agenda" advocates, homophobia doesn't exist.

Generally, it is acknowledged that "opponents" of gay rights have no other reason to oppose them other than fear. These people will claim a religious basis, but really it's nothing but fear and self-loathing stemming from the time when they were 14 and had a fleeting attraction to their best friend. Hence, homophobia.

Well, conventionally, a phobia is an irrational fear, not a hatred. So assuming that "homo" here is a reference to the "same" prefix (homo-sexual, preference for the same gender, as opposd to hetero=different) it should be a fear of those who are gay. If it meant hatred or such, then people with agrophobia would hate the sky and airplanes.

The word homophobia means fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals. It can also mean hatred of and disparagement of homosexual people, their lifestyles, their sexual behaviors, or cultures, and is generally used to assert bigotry. Opposition to same-sex activism on religious, moral, or political grounds is also referred to by some persons pejoratively as "homophobia", although this usage is not the dictionary definition.

It's just political correctness. It's like when somebody asks a question that related to race they often will be branded a racist.

Embrace differences but don't pretend they don't exist.

homophobic means fear of homosexuality. that's it. it might change to mean something else too (like the word "gay" itself. it use to mean "happy").
