A bag of flour busted open and to avoid a mess I rushed it into my kitchen sink. I scopped up as much as I could but a lot did get into the garbage disposal. I washed the rest down with hot water but now it' stopped up. Tried drano and plunger but that didn't work. Disposal operates but just displaces water to the other side of the dual sink. Will a snake work? Can the flour harden into a tough dough and really case a nightmare?

I would remove the trap on the sink and clean it out before trying anything else. I don't think the flour will harden unless its allowed to completely dry. Drano and other cleaners generally will not work on such a problem. They are better at dissolving grease, hair and soap scum. If it doesnt work then I would try a snake. A plunger may very well push the gunk deeper into the pipes. After you get the drain partially open then you should flush it with cold water for 15 or 20 minutes to clear the pipes of any remaining flour. I hope this helps.

try breaking up the flower, get a coat hanger and start poking threw it to break it up. that might work if the clog is close enough to the drain. if the clog is too far down the pipe to reach. then maybe you could try a plunger to force the clog out. if that fails you're just going to need to get a snake (not real snake but plumbers snake)to get the clog out. you can get one at any home improvement stores in the plumbing section.

oh dam i just caught the garbage disposal part.... i hope that baking soda and vinegar thing works. i don't know what to say other then call the plumber because forcing anything into the disposal may do damage like a snake. if you do it your self you are going to have to start taking pipes apart.

run hot water and the garbage disposal ,i was going to say add ammonia incase there some grease in there but with the drano u might cause a chem reaction--oh throw that drano aaaaaaaawaayyyyyyyy it eats the pipe and leaves the gunk and if u have a p trap which all drains do--thats where it will eat ur pipe hmmmm a snake, i dought it could hurt-if nothing eles-oh run that water a long time--like 5 mins

The flour can harden into an awful mess.

To get it out, you'll need hot water...lots of it.

The idea is to slowly dilute the flour with the hot water, so it will flow down the drain. Crank on the hot water, and just let it run.

According to the link below, if you add one cup baking soda and one cup vinegar to your drain, the clog will most likely disappear. Thanks
