How would it affect the body? Would it be stronger or weaker? What about stamina and all that? What would a human body with two hearts be capable of?

If one goes out, you may still be able to do some types of bypasses to have the other work and circulate the blood.

However, if one heart quivers:; as what happens during ventricle fibrillation. (what is necessary to shock the heart back into its normal rythm), The blood will be sloshing all over the place, and the other heart will not be able to pick the slack up, because the blood will not be catching up like it is supposed to.

You will also have the problem of two pumps. a pump pulls the blood and pushes the blood. If one pump fails, the other heart will only be a place where blood collects. This could cause blood pooling in one area, (ie: blood clotting), and your blood flow could stop completely. The stoppage of oxygen or blood flow is what causes heart attacks and strokes.

two hearts would NOT be beneficial unless one was just lying dormant not doing anything unless you needed it.

pros - prolly live longer cuz you have two hearts pumping. this makes it less stressful for both
- if you get shot in one or one gets damaged one way or another, it won't necessarily be fatal.
- if you die, you have two hearts to go to donation
- more stamina because hearts work less.

cons - each heart will be less stronger than if you had just one
- lack of internal space
- two hearts can be broken.

i think a lot of this also depends on how the body develops with two hearts. can the body still function with one heart, like it does with one kidney or lung. or does the body use one heart and if the other gets over stressed, it switches to the other. will the hearts be smaller to fit into the same area the one heart was or will the internal body be rearranged. a lot depends on this. plus if we were better off with two hearts, we'd prolly have two. we have two lungs and kidneys, arms and legs. lips, cheeks. if two hearts were an advantage, i'm sure some creature would have two. maybe some do and i just dont' know bout them...

in theory with some complex plumbing one could have 5 hearts one for each limb and one for the torso were by the main heart would be connected with the lungs and the auxiliary hearts have a variable bypass valve allowing faster circulation for each limb this would allow for longer bursts of high energy output and a more directed blood supply to get oxygen were its needed allowing more efficient independent use of the limbs rather it be for lifting prying or running also if any of the hearts were to fail the others could take over even if the main heart were to give out the auxiliary hearts could take over for a short time while the main heart would also be doing less of the work when all is working and as it should and while sleeping the main heart can take a rest as minimal oxygen would be needed just have to work in sync if evolution worked out correctly in 3 billion years humans might have 5 hears read some story were some guy had 2 hearts and they worked find for 62 years he also had 3 arms as far as a draw back i do not see one other then more parts to fail but it would be a fail safe system meaning the failed heart could be bypassed for a short time while it would still be getting oxygen it would likely recover

With 2 hearts you would need more blood to be pumped through yor body. You would also need either larger lungs or 4 lungs in order to suplly the blood with enough Oxygen. Your blood pressure would be much higher do to the extra pumping action. It would be diffcult to live to an old age since you would have many problem if ne heart stopped beating ot if they didn't beat insync.

It sounds cool to have two hearts, it just turns out to be a bad idea

Maybe I'm the only person who thinks this way, but we do in a certain sense have multiple hearts. When an athlete is using his muscles, the contractions help to move the blood back to the heart, this is why it is important to cool down after exercise. Suddenly stopping allows the blood to pool in the extremities, and a person can become faint.

I think there will be more cons than pros. The entire body has to be readjusted. Blood flow will be divided. It will neither increase nor decrease stamina. We will need to breathe more. Two heart attacks...YIKES. No, I think I am happy with one.

if a human body had to heart i would think it would mess the body up i think it would pump the blood from both hearts to fast and may bring on a heart attack or maybe even pump the blood in opposite directions

Well, one really great pro would be for heart surgeons, you could shut one down for surgery as long as you could shunt the blood flow around the damaged organ. The con would be trying to pay for a dodeciple bypass.

People have been born with two hearts. This is usually negative because one or both hearts do not develope strong enough.

Like the Doctor from Doctor Who. You'd probably live longer, and be healthier, and there would be more hearts for heart transplants, so that's a plus.
