India is one of the oldest and most diversified civilisation of the world and hav inherited a large amount historical structures from red fort to minakshi temple ,the best way to preserve them is to stop defacing the monuments by general public and better maintenance ASI of them.

Well, there is the obvious; tourism. Also, India's monuments are very old and great cultural icons and masterpieces. Stopping litter/ vandalism would be good. Also, you could direct traffic at least a mile away from the monument to limit erosion.

We have to preserve them because they are in danger. The dangers may be - people destroying them(for personal interest, for contradiction and conflicts), nature effects ( acid rains, plant, errosion, sunlight, air pollution and so on).
We have to preserve them because they are important for education. Its is a way to impart important past events to future generation.
Different ways of preserving:
1.Restoration,
2. Relocation (I think monuments at Abu Simbel in Egypte were move because the goverment was building a dam)
3. Making people aware
4. Re-inforcing the law
