It was first inhabited by Neanderthals migrating out of Africa, about 200,000 years ago. Eventually the Neanderthals died out and because the region is central between the three continents populated during this time, it was inhabited by many different cultures. The earliest one for which we have a name that was not given by archaeologists is the Semitic culture, from which both modern Israelis and Palestinians are derived. The land was inhabited by the Canaanites (including the Phoenicians), then the Jews. It was conquered many times by the powers of the day, and the Jews were scattered across the known world. In the 7th century, it was conquered by the Arabs, and the people now known as the Palestinians moved in.

Another people.
The jewish people, as according to the scripture, migrated to palestine under the direction of Abraham, sometime around 2000 BC.
At that time, there allready lived people there, which where driven away by the jews.
Mohamed did not have his visions around 600 AD, 2600 years later. So they where, naturally, not muslims. But their descendants might have BECOME muslims.
Around 70 AD, the romans tore down the Temple of jerusalem, in response to repeated jewish rebellions, and the jewish people where scattered throughout the roman empire.
With the adoption of chirstianity as the Roman state religion in 391, Palestine became christian rule, like the rest of the empire.
In 639 AD, palestine, along with north africa, was conquered by the armies of Islam, and became mostly moslim over the years.

Arab Palestinians have the oldest and the longest history in Palestine, from 638 AD and until today. The first people that lived in Palestine were the Canaans, who immigrated to Palestine from the Arabian Peninsula. In modern history, Jews started to immigrate to Palestine after 1900.
Immigrated Jews to Palestine cannot consider as a nation, they speak dozens of languages; most of them cannot speak it Hebrew; they are of thousands of nationalities, they lack a common history. They are different groups of people with ONLY one thing in common, their religion. On the other hand, the Arab Palestinians speak one language, Arabic; a majority are Muslims (some are Christians or Jews); all have a SINGLE history for more then 1400 years and all have the same traditions and culture.

Jewish people did. They were there, went to Egypt and came back when Moses led them back. Islam was not a religion at that time.
