Probably not ... and babies have a rather gross smelly way of letting you know if they eat too much :-)

Are you referring to how much formula you feed your baby? If so, then no, it is not too much. Most 3 week old babies will eat between 2 and 4 ounces of formula every 2 hours or so.
In the next week or 2, your baby should increase it's intake to between 4 to 6 ounces every couple of hours.

i would say that 4 ounces is probably is too much...my 4 month old son is eating only 3.5 ounces of formula/breast milk...we tried giving him 4 ounces early on and it just led to him spitting up. babies can only drink as much as thier stomachs can hold. in the case of an average three week old (this varies from baby to baby depending on birthweight) his/her stomach may only be capable of holding 2-3 ounces. We gave 2.5 ounces up until two months then progressively gave more.

Depends..every baby is different. If I remember correctly when my son was that old he was still 2-3 ounces. I don't think we got up to four yet but if your baby is taking 4 then he/she seems ready for that amount. If it seems the baby is taking too much then give him/her 3 ounces and see how they do on that.

No, every baby is different. Go by what keeps your baby satisfied. My son weighed 7 lbs 7 oz and was 19" long when he was born. He took 4 oz. when he was only 24 hrs old. Shocked the nurses. By the time he went back for his 6 week check, he was taking 8 oz. every 3 hrs. and eating cereal and fruit in the morning and in the evening. He never stretched a feeding to every 4 hrs, he could not be filled up. Many disagreed with me but I raised a happy, healthy, active child who is now 6' 4" and 180 lbs and at 21 yrs old, still cannot be filled up.

the formula companys don't make milk like they use to.these babies are not getting full.I had a friend who gave her baby 6 ounces at 2 weeks and at 6 wks the baby was getting cereal in his bottle.make sure the baby is burped every 2 to 3 ounces and your baby will be fine.

4 ounces of formula? breastmilk? or 4 ounces of weigh per week?
If it is 4 ounces of formula/breastmilk, it all depends if your son seems hungry or if you are giving this amount because you feel it that way.
Watch for the cues your baby is giving to you and you will find the answer.

Nope. Let the baby eat as much as they need. My son was up to 7 at his 4 week appointment. The pediatrician said there is NO WAY the baby is eating that much. I got out a bottle and showed him. Some babies are hungry. Nature tells them when and how much to eat.

i wouldn't think so, my baby was in our local children's hospital for the first 4 weeks of his little life, and they would feed him 3 oz every 3 hours. He is now 3 mo's and 2 weeks and will eat any where from 3 to 7 oz depending on how hungry he is and how much he has eaten that day. Babies will spit up if they eat to much, it's not pretty, and it doesn't make for fun times, i hate throwing up myself, but they will let us know if they are getting too much food for their little tummies.
