I don't think you can change them ,they must change themselves by exposing their minds to other people that are "different" than what they see in the mirror When you get to know another on a one on one basis's you can celebrate your differences as well as things you find you have in common, you tend to be less judgmental of someone you like and know.Fear of the unknown is a racists biggest problem.and a cowards way of dealing with low self esteem.

I think the best way to change those type of people are through education of diversity... Often times they are that way because of some stereotypes, what they've heard others say, or a few bad experiences. Many times these people have been around the same type of people for a very long time. That's why I say that they need diversity education. It would teach them about stereotypes. Actually try to break through to them that some of what they believe might actually be just that, a stereotype. Basically through some type of education about people who are not like them, and just some time being in around other people probably would help.

I don't know that you can change them, but I do know that there are certainly moments when you must take a stand for what you believe in. It doesn't always have to be a loud protest. Remember that many are simply a product of their upbringing and in spite of current media, political correctness, etc. remain ignorant and oblivious. I once heard a Caucasian man use the N word in reference to an African American woman and she heard him. The look of hurt on her face was unforgettable. I walked over to him and told him "I am sorry for you and the hatred that lives inside you that makes you speak of people like that. You are to be pitied." I really don't know where the words came from. My grandmother would have said "The Spirit moved me." I guess the point I'm trying to make is that some people don't realize they are being jerks until someone points it out to them. My ride came a few seconds later but a friend told me the guy was rubbing his eyes and that he said something to lady before he got on his bus. I'd like to think I made him cry and that he apologized to her but I'll never know. But I do know that I did the right thing.

Everyone is prejudice to a certain degree whether they admit it or not whether it be against a certain class, race, or religion. It is not something to be proud of & regardless of our feelings we still need to try to treat each other with as much respect as possible.

Some people will never be accepting of others, however & it is impossible to even try. Most likely they will just wind up hating you, too. Why even keep company with such people?

It's not my job to try to change or convert others.

As Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

I interpret that to mean that I should concentrate on changing myself and becoming perfect myself first, before I sit in judgment of anyone else.

Nobody can change the other person, as much as nobody can change you.

The only one you can change, is yourself. Only if you wish.
