There are many different kinds of flip flops. Flip flops are just any shoe that is open toed and doesn't have a back. thongs are the kind of flip flops that go in-between your toes. An example of a flip flop that is not a thong are those adidas does, the black and white ones that some girl wear with socks. those are flip flops, but they are not thongs.

there are two different ways to saying what a thong is 1thong- goes up your *** (and is considered underwear) 2 thong- the thing that goes between your toes. and then there's the flip flop 1 can or can not go in between your toes( and when you walk it comes and hits the bottom of your feet

Actually, as long as we're talking about two terms that describe footwear (and not one term that's underwear), they're exactly the same. The only difference is the geographic location which uses the words.
As just stated by Belinda Goldsmith in an article written on June 29th, "The term "flip-flop" derives from the noise they make while slapping against the wearer's heels and the floor but they are also known as thongs in Australia, jandals in New Zealand, and slippers in Hawaii."

Nothing but we have started calling certain underwear thongs so it is best to call flip-flops flip-flops.

Flip flops are usually inexpensive rubber or plastic type shoes. Thongs are more well made higher quality same style shoe.

They are the same. I have also heard of them referred to as go-a-heads, as you have to keep moving forward to keep them on.
