does anyone know why my ear is still hurting? I have seen my family doctor and a specialist!! They both said they can't see anything when they looked in the ear. Its been hurting for about 1 month now off/on. This weekend it hurt to the point I put hot packs on it like my doctor said, and took some advil/alieve and it still bothers me. I also put some peroxide in it. That didn't even help. Any suggestions for a home remedy or something I could put in the ear to help ease the ache. Serious answers only, doctor or nurse answers would be very helpful. Thanks..

See another doctor and tell him/her what you told me. It is good to get a second or third or fouth opinion.

My guesses would be that you;
1) punctured or tore a small hole in it, maybe a Q-tip?? The tear may have caused some swelling which is making it impossible to see with the scopes your dr. is using or
2) You have an underlying infection that needs to be treated.
3) Perhaps both are the case for you.
When I have an ear-ache (at least one/year, I have always used warm, as warm as I can take, oliveoil. I put it in a dropper, and drop about 4-5 drops into the canal, stuff it with cotton form a cotton ball, and lay with my head so that the oil can stay in my ear. It is soothing, and won't hurt you, or cause any other problems.
Please see someone else about this. Maybe you need a scan done of your head to make sure that every possibility is covered.

I agree with songbird.

See an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist. If they do not find something in a thorough eval including urine test for white blood count, go back to your Primary Doc and ask for another specialist or tell you Primary Doc you aren't leaving until he does something for the pain. You may need further tests. Do not let the medical profession tell you 'how you feel' only you know that. Continue with warm compresses and over the counter anti-inflamatories or acetophetamine for pain until you can get to the doctor.

Increase the Advil to 600mg every 4 hrs for the next two days. Apply heat packs, (dry heat!!) like get a towel, wet, put in ziplock microwave for 30 seconds or so, wrap a dry towel around that apply to ears. You also will need drops to truly aleve this. it's build up of bacteria caused by not drying enough after showering or by using "q-tips" right after the shower and not drying enough.

Try adding a fatty substance to the affected ear, such as lanoline.

I am not a doctor, but this treatment works for me. Sounds like you might have something more serious though.
