It seems to me that if Grass only grew up to say 2 inches in height then we could all do away with our lawn mowers!

Grass will grow throughout the year and mostly in the winter. The severity of the winter and the temperature will dictate the rate of growth and it naturally follows that temperatures of below freezing for a prolonged period will determine pretty much zero growth . You will really have to be the judge. The general advice, However this is influenced by many factors, if you decide to set your winter grass length at 25-40 mm and the grass grows beyond the limits that you have set, then the Grass can be cut. Avoid cutting in the winter, if the surface is either saturated or frozen but after a decent drying day it is safe to run the mower over the Lawn.

I read that scientists are working on that at the moment; not sure if they will ever get it to happen though. Grass needs to be cut to continue to thicken and spread. Think of when you first seed a lawn, it looks sparse and quite naff until it has been established and cut a few times. If you can't be bothered cutting the lawn, or don't wanna store and maintain a lawn mower, hire a gardener, if you are just wanting the grass cutting they are pretty cheap.

If it were only that easy!
I am sure someone somewhere is trying to develop this short lawn grass but it will undoubtedly be very expensive. And have few seed heads.
Even short grass developed for golf courses needs to be mowed regularly. My local golf course mows their greens several times a week.
I am sure if you live long enough, a lawn grass will be developed that needs little mowing. Until then try to enjoy your lawn.

There are slow growing grass seeds, mowing the lawn is the only excersize most people get, and it gives job satisfaction.

There are short grasses but they cost a lot compared to general purpose. The key is to mow your lawn each week at least once or twice preferably and then it is easy to manage.

Think about that. Boy would it be great, but every lawn mower manufacturer in the United States would be out of business wouldn't they?

bc if it only grew to 2 inches.... it would stop growing... and since plants are continually growing..this would infer its lifelessness. therefore you would have dead grass. but you wouldnt have to mow
sorry for the dumb response but i didnt have much to work with.

what you might try doing is making it so that you want to mow your lawn... like maybe... take pride in it?? isnt one of the points of mowing so that it looks good...take pride in that. it makes it alot more worth doing it.
