The timing was suspicious.
Rumsfeld worked for a chemical company.
He is picked "special liason" to Iraq by Reagan out of the blue.
A few weeks later, Saddam gasses the Kurds.

Saddam was already in power in 1980. The US supported him with weapons so he would punish Iran for the revolution in 79. Prior to being VP GHW Bush had been the head of CIA > not likely a man in his position would spend the time to meet with a lowly third world dictator.

Don't know for sure but I did hear that right after Saddam was captured, George Bush made sure a huge photo of himself was placed on the wall of the area where he was confined.
He was forced to look at George Bush and know he was the loser and George Bush the winner of the pissing contest.

really though i think they have (bush sr. i mean ) and plus back in the 1980's the US helped Sadaam gain power and leadership in Iraq.
