If you are chronically constipated, I'd suggest a high fiber diet (whole grain cereals) and prune juice. Hey it works for me!

For short term relief a laxative.

For long term constipation, go with treefrog's advice. For short term constipation and other stomach upsets, try to keep your abdomen warm, either using a hot water bottle or taking a bath.

Eat foods that are high in fiber. Also eat lots of fruits & veggies. Watermelon & cantalope is in season right now, eat lots of them as well as apples. Try a small bowl of oatmeal for breakfast or a snack.

Try taking some metamucil or fibersure for immediate relief or some other otc laxative.

Getting enough fiber each day will prevent it but once you have the problem, stool softeners work the best because they don't cause cramping like laxatives do. You can take up to 8 a day.

Diet rich in fiber, lots of water and exercise. And if that doesn't work, check in with a doctor.

Harsh laxitives will work, but are very rough on your system.

American/European diets are lacking in fiber, which is a big contributor to constipation issues.

Drink lots of water, and eat high fiber foods.

Also, there is a product called mirilax that your doc can prescribe, if you have a lot of problems. Or, you can buy Sorbitol, over the counter. Hint: A little dab will do ya, on the ole sorbitol. lol

Happy Pooping!!! LOLOL

The use of bulk products such as metamucil is helpful. For single episodes I favor milk of magnesia 1oz. over harsher laxatives.
