There are three routes to get there (well, three that make sense):

Take Interstate 90 to...
A. Cardwell, head south on US 287 to West Yellowstone
(201 miles)
B. Bozeman, head south on US 191 to 287 and West Yellowstone (212 miles)
C. Livingston, head south on US 89 to North Entrance
(207 miles)
All three with take around 4 hours or so.

West Yellowstone places you closer to Old Faithful and the geysers, while North Yellowstone is closer to the waterfalls.

you might be able to still camp in yellowstone but if you were getting a hotel you would need to reserve long time in advance cause thats where all the tourists are.
