Hi, my window air conditioner just doesn't seem to be cooling like I know it should be. I recently bought it, within 2 months and at first it wasn't a big deal but it's getting hot now and I want to know if the problem is fixable. The unit is just in my bedroom so it's not meant to cool a lot, small bedroom. The air that comes out of it isn't very cool although it is slightly cooler than what would come from a fan. I've got no idea what the problem is but the things brand new practically. I would have taken it back already but I lost the reciept at some point. Any help would be appreaciated, thanks.

It might just be getting hotter outside. A properly-sized A/C unit will cool the room to only about 15-20 degrees below the outside temperature. It's actual function is to remove the humidity from the air which makes the body's natural cooling system (sweating and evaporation) more efficient.

The unit might be too small for the room...but it could have a freon leak.

Put a thermometer in the air stream that is being blown outward from the unit. Also take a reading (with the same thermometer) at the farthest point from the window unit. There should be about a l5-22 degree difference in your two readings. If not, it could be an air-flow problem (dirty filter, dirt in unit, obstruction, etc.) If the air coming out seems to be fairly strong and you're not getting a l5-22 degree difference in your two readings, you need to buy another unit. Small window A/C's are so cheap now, it doesn't pay to fix them. Buy a Haier (Chinese product).

Sounds like the filter or drain plug might be clogged. Clean the filter or replace. Check the drain line or any clogs where it connects to the air conditioner. Hopefully, that will do it. If not try to take it back and see if you can get a replacement. Most big companies do this without a receipt as there is a code which tells them how recent the date of manufacter was.

Did you not fill out the warranty and send it in?

Unplug it. Find and clean the filter. Turn it back on. Check buttons to make sure it is set right. Find manual or look up on the Internet see if it has a trouble shooting guide. If not call manufacturer. Take it back if you can if nothing helps.
