Go to the Dentist, Don't cover up the problem, get to the base of it. Also use some Listerine

They come from stress, food allergies, and acid blood or food. If you've had them for four months you might want to check your blood acidity or reduce your sugar intake or MSG if you eat MSG containing foods including tomatoes. MSG is an acid and sugar acidifies your blood. Some oral hygiene products actually can make the condition worse. Change your diet and in the meantime if you can see a Chinese medical doctor do so or put a tiny bit of baking soda (alkali) or salt on your sore. Salt and baking soda will hurt but will shorten the duration of the sore. I sometimes get them; they last 7- 10 days. Once I got a huge one that lasted for three months and it was after I had MSG poisoning. A little MSG will cause a small one but I know the cook put a large amount on the occasion when I got the long lasting one.

i get these alot when i'm stressed out and they are one of the most painful things ever!!

i use motrin-it's ibuprofen which has an anti-inflammatory in it so it helps reduce swelling around the sore itself.

i've tried using anbesol gel and liquid to help numb them-the gel helps for a little while but i find it works best when i use it right as i'm taking the motrin so by the time it wears off-the motrin has kicked in.

not sure about any herbal treatment. just brush teeth thoroughly after eating anything-avoid mouthwash b/c it has alcohol in it and it will sting alot

If you ask your dentist he might have something called "hot sticks" which are silver nitrate sticks. These sticks look like long matches. It hurts for about 2 seconds as they are applied directly to the ulcer. It works by cauterizing the area and you should be pain free while it heals.

No herbs. But a visit to dental man is good. 2%Xylocaine is available in drug shops. One to one dilution of this local anesthetic is very effective as a mouth wash and gives immediate relief.
Dont swallow.
