Well, I certainly don't believe this, but one could say that animals were created to be born and die. When God created Adam and Eve he intended to let them live forever, but when they sinned, he condemed them to die the same as animals.
I think it's more straight-forward to accept that WE are animals, we evolved from lower animals, and like the other animals we'll die. If it was God's doing, why should I die for Adam's sin? That's not fair! Isn't God fair?

This question is miscategorized. It should have been posted under Religion in the Society & Culture category.
Special Education refers to the educating and parenting of children with disabilities.
That being said:
If you are someone who reads the Bible literally, as every word being exact truth....then you are going to spend lots of time scratching your head over the contradictions! It is a written record of Hebrew oral storytelling tradition and cultural history, all of which provides ethical guidance, lifestyle laws, and a family's history for 5000 years.
In the story of the Fall, death was not the penalty. Death in TOIL and PAIN was. Prior to the Fall, death was painless.
Man was not immortal prior to the Fall... therefore the other Tree of Life that was also forbidden.
The penalty between humans and snakes was to be each others' enemies and cause of death, not death as a new concept.
Otherwise, considering G-d commanded all living things to "be fruitful and multiply" prior to the Fall... what did you think He was planning on doing when all the Earth was full and the young kept coming? Only the existence of death, for the old to make way for the young, can explain it.

I think animals died before the Fall, and I don't think this precluded God from declaring creation to be "very good". There's a number of Bible passages that I base this view on, but I focus on these two. The first (Psalm 104) presents a positive case for my view, and the second (Romans 5) is often used by young-earth creationists as evidence animal death started with the Fall.
Psalm 104 is a creation psalm. It tells of God's work in creating and sustaining the world. It's best to read the whole psalm to get the full context.

Why do animals die? God gave death to humans as punishment for sins, but animals cannot sin because they have neither rationality or thought, which is something God-given in humans.
Think about it like this: everything on this planet has a "shelf-life", which is a point in the life of that human, animal, mineral, etc that it's organic materials breakdown and become no longer functional i.e. death in humans and animals or decay in minerals.
Everything on planet earth can be broken down into elements found the periodic table, so therefore (if you studied chemistry) given long enough these elements break down and that's it.

An animals essence is resurrected in it's offspring. Animals are captives of nature and cannot escape nature. Animals can't sin
and so death is not a punishment. Any composed thing must at some point become decomposed. Everything that goes up must come down. Darkness would have no meaning if there was no light.

The whole world was cursed, not just Adam, Eve and the serpent. There was no death and suffering at all in the world before sin entered. There were no thorns or poisonous plants or animals either. The animals were vegetarians until sin entered and then some became carnivorous or omnivorous. People were vegetarians. Animals were not afraid of people. Actually, it became ok for people to eat meat and animals became afraid of people after the flood. Human sin has a knock on effect for the rest of creation, hence the importance of correct dominion and accountability.
