(I)'s should unite, hold their own primary, put forth a candidate...etc.

This is the perfect time for a third party. Our current system is not what our founding fathers envisioned. The stranglehold on power must be broken. It is dividing us instead of uniting us. United We Stand Divided We Fall.

I used to believe that. But now I've gotten too cynical to think it would actually make any difference. We'd just have the same BS, but with 3 parties instead of 2. Or, maybe we'd have 3 parties all serving one agenda.

The only way things are going to change for the better is if we all smarten up and get a clue how things actually work (and I don't mean to imply that you specifically don't have a clue, I mean we all don't).

I used to think the same, but now I'm not so sure.

The problem is there is no unity. Independents are just that, independent. For someone to get elected they need to convince a large number of people to vote for them. That is tough. The easiest way to do that is to have a basic set of principles and ask people to support it.

This is what a party is.

They get one issue people to join together so they can win. It would be very unusual for one person to have 51% of the people agree with everything the candidate says.

Independence have lots of 3rd parties, but they are all small and disagree with each other and don't just have one issue. You must agree with most of what they think or your not a member.

That kind of 3rd party can't win.

No parties! Down with the party system! Let the people figure out for themselves what side they are on!
