If you mean people like me who are prone to the more-than-occasional typo, it's because, well, we're prone to the more-than-occasional typo.
If, on the other hand, u meen ppl wot rite liek dis, it's not bad or lazy - it's an entirely new language designed specifically to annoy the civilized, tea drinking people among us.
The internet is split into two groups. De uber kewl d00ds on the one hand, and normal people on the other. It's just the way that things are.

Everything has become instantaneous. No one wants to take the time to check their grammar and spelling because they want to hit the enter button and move on to the next IM. With IM, email and chat rooms, people are using acronyms and such to shorten the message.
I think it is more with those 30 and younger, especially teenagers (I have 3 of them). It's not just the internet, it's everything in their lives. They want everything now.
I don't think it's a product of the schools. From what I've seen with my kids, the schools are teaching proper spelling and grammar.

some would blame this on parents, but to me, these are very basic skills that are being neglected in the classrooms around the u.s. for this i blame teachers ! ( and their always bitching about raises! HA!) this is not one of those blame the parent type situations to me and IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS ADDRESSING IN THE SCHOOLHOUSE! they could a least emphasize using a spell checker for god sake...these kids are going to be incapable of communicating with the real world and it will be a problem for them to integrate.. the written word as we know it may change in time, but for now is a necessity! i cant tell you how many guys and gals in my line of work i run across fresh out of school that cant spell, not to mention, their hand writing is godawful! geez...time to get on some teachers i think! by the way... for those non believers out there... my boss had to provide 2 of my younger co-workers with friggin dictionaries so people could read their paperwork! and that still doesnt fix the retarded 3 yr. old hand writing!

that is because some typists are paid not per word but depending on the amount of time spent.
they see it better to use more time , do less work and have more money.
i bet you if you were in that position, you'll do same.

I think so, gone are the days when spelling and mispronounciation in class are obligatory courses for every student. This is dangerous...sadly...
