Since it is unethical to ban gay and lesbian marriage, it is also unethical to ban family marriages. Cousins are a bit out of my reach, but marriage to your immediate family is waaaaaaaaaay out there.

Heck no. If gays and lesbians should be allowed to have the legal status of "married" granted to them by a society that does not approve of gay marriage by 80%+, then we need to also include incest and polygamy as well.
The logic and reasoning is the same behind both.

On the other hand, though, it WOULD help to prevent genetic defects caused by inbreeding...

if you don't want to get married to your cousin, then just say no.
i would never get married to any of my cousin brothers, but i wouldn't say the government needs to get involved. they have better things to do!
