1000's. Literally. Especially if you are looking at New England or the Chesapeake regions of the U.S. Those areas were settled primarily by English settlers. The English settlers named their new homes after their old homes in England. A bit of info: New York was originally New Amsterdam but the name was changed when England got the territory from the Netherlands. See? Even the Dutch did it!
