If they told the people the truth of why we go to war there would be no support from the people. Read War is a Racket by Marine General Smedley Buttler. He is the most famous and highly decorated Marine in our history. He was awarded 2 Medals of Honer while he was still alive. You will get all your questions answered in the first page.

The American educational system has tweaked certain aspects of history to make us look "better." I'm assuming you're meaning that there was another rider with Revere, the Civil War was NOT fought over slavery (and the fact that the Union actually invaded the Confederacy and took over...possibly illegally), and that American troops may have been pretty brutal to POWs in WWII. They want us to grow up knowing that everything that the country has done in the past is right. We don't read about American troops in Vietnam mistreating civilians, but it happened, unfortunately. They are omitting facts to save the reputation of America and make it look better to it's citizens. Personally, I prefer it that way...I hate having to question everything I was taught. Government, religion, education...it is all questionable.

A lot of what teachers say is lies. Mostly in history class though. Teachers convert the truth to make their countries sound awesome and innocent and the rivals cruel, evil, merciless, ect. EX- World War II HItler is soo bad he started everything, blah! HES EVIL! Hitler didnt think think of it on his own. Back in the 1930's Hitler had an organization with over 20 people protesting Jews. Haha. Hope that helped. :)

Hey! I like points right? Recorded history is as much a matter of prospective and bias as actual reporting. If you examine more than one point of view, than use your own logic to balance the two you may get a clearer perspective on what actually happened.
Remember the 2000 Bush/Gore election then compare the Kennedy/Nixon results...so many similarities with opposite results. I remember the democrats praising the Electoral College then.

I think it's because we like stories with flash. We are gulliable and will believe anything.
Don't forget that everyone thinks that Columbus went out to prove that the Earth was round and not flat. That is also a misconception. Back then everyone knew the Earth was round.

Our school books put a positive spin on things we have done as a nation that were not so great.

Everyone wants to think their founding fathers, and ancestors were good natured, perfect people. No one in this world is perfect. Sometimes good people do evil things.
