Hospitals have an obligation to treat you regardless of payment at the time of service. That is an ethics policy. I recommend to first obtain an over the counter pregnancy test as they are usually very accurate and give you the ability to re-test, and if that proves to be positive, then consult the emergency room for a blood test. You can also go to any local Planned Parenthood affiliation for a pregnancy test and exam. They work on a sliding fee scale, and would charge you a fair and managable charge for the visit.

First call your insurance company and find out what "pending" means. They should be able to explain to you when and what is covered during this period.
Second, a pregnancy test does not warrant an Emergency Room visit. You should go your local pharmacy, pick up a pregnancy kit and this should give you an answer. If your pregancy test is positive, schedule an appointment with an OB/GYN MD or Midwife. They will perform a pregnancy test to confirm the results. If the test is negative, wait a 2-3 weeks, if symptons persist, perform another over-the-counter pregnancy kit and see if the results change.
Good luck to you!

If your coverage is not active yet, they will not pay for it.
You can go on your own to get the test, but everything is more expensive at the ER. Can you wait, and go to an OBGYN? You will have to pay for the visit, then (if they dont do it in the office) go and get the blood work done. Either way you will have to pay a fee for the test. But the office visit should be around $50, when you call to make an appointment ask them how much they charge. You will have to pay them up front.

The initials E R stand for Emergency Room. The possibility that you may be pregnant hardly constitutes an emergency. Should you attend for a pregnancy test you may impact someone who has a genuine emergency, you will waste the time of a lot of people, and you will contribute to the already high cost of insurance in your country. One reason for this high cost is the insurance companies, if they pay for this frivolity, just pass it on to the rest of their clients. The administrative cost i.e. paperwork of processing your attendance is far in excess of what it would cost to get a kit from the pharmacy.

You don't need a blood test for pregnancy, get an OTC test. They are very liable. If it comes back positive, make an appointment with your OB. They will probably set up an appointment for around your 12th week at which point they will set up an ultrasound to confirm.

It would be a waste of time and money going to the ER.
You can buy a test for under $20.00.
I don't know about where you live, but here you can go to the Doc's office and they can bill insurance up to three months after the date you visit. Hope this helps.

You can go to the ER for anything without any kind of insurance. It will cost you a butt load of money should your insurance decide not to cover it but you can still go. I suggest if there is a Centra Care (Free or reduced price) Clinic in your area that you go there instead. Trust me, the ER will bite you in the butt if you have to pay out of pocket.

why don't you go get an OTC test at a store and then wait until your insurance is a go before spending money on a blood test?

Why not get a pregnancy test at the pharmacy?
It's cheaper, fast and deosn't use valuable doctor resources. Or go to your local health department . Don't abuse the e.r, just because you can.
