yes and no
yes there should be certain amount of people who should be allowed to stay, simply because many have been here for years, have families here, and are just looking for the best for thier families.....the best for thier families, what would you do for your family?
Should we have an increase in border security yes, yes and yes.
Should we open the gate for millions more, no, no no....
in the end there is a middle ground, if you look in heart and consider they are just people like you with the same wants and hopes, it is easier to hate a group than understand a person......
In the middle ground between the cries of hate and anger you'll see that there is a humane way to deal with all this...

We subsidize education and health care (and other services) for poor people here even if they pay all taxes. Poor immigrants are a net economic drain, and a dramatic drain on education and services in areas where they concentrate. That is why we like all other developed countries limit the number of poor immigrants that can come.
Our own education is failing in border states, and our health care and other benefits are failing nationally, with the baby boomer generation set to retire soon. We can't afford this many. Their better life is at the expense of our children and our sick.
We can't afford anything like the Senate Bill. That would drain the middle class, rob our own children of upward mobility through education and our sick of health care. We would end up with a thin upper crust and a massive, uneducated lower class.
Any policy we adopt needs to plug the leak so it doesn't get worse during the debate. Then it needs to make sure that education and services will be provided for before any increase in immigration through amnesty or guest worker program is allowed.
As a start, it needs to cut off the 'family reunification preferences' that multiplies by 4+ the number of every 'accounted for' part of the quotas currently being discussed in the Senate Bill. That is simply dishonesty on the part of our politicians.

The U.S. economy needs immigration.
U.S. citizens are not producing children fast enough to make up for the aging/retiring baby-boomers.
Someone has to pay for their social security and government medical coverage.
Without immigration, taxes will have to be significantly raised to avoid a generational fight over these programs.
Other items of note:
1) The children of immigrants do better, on average, in U.S. schools that native children.
2) Immigrants, on average, have higher levels of education than natives.
3) The U.S. is not producing enough science and engineering college graduates to fill the available jobs in the U.S.
4) Natives take more money out of the social services system than do immigrants, both as a whole, and as a percentage of individuals in the two groups.
5) Immigrants put as much into the social welfare system as they take out.
6) It is the humanitarian thing to do, to bring 'em in and let the responsible ones stay.
And, let's keep in mind that the only people that aren't here through illegal immigration are the Native Americans (the Indians).

This country was founded and built by imigrants. Of course they should be allowed to stay. "Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free"....but do it leagally. Tis country is at war and anyone inside its borders illeagally is a potential threat to national security. They are also a slap in the face to those who came here the right way and through the proper channels. So, in short, if they are legal, they can stay. If they are not, then they can get the heck out.

yes, only if they can present the right legally papers to say they are citizens then yes; but there are thousands of illegals here that are making it harder for the ones who are becoming citizens the right way look bad. If you went to any other country you would need a passport, birth certificate and citizenship papers so why not them. They have to understand that we not saying they shouldn't be allowed to become a citizen, but they aren't allowed to work, get aid, buy businesses, cars, and free medical on the tax payers dime.
Yes they do work some Americans won't do but it still ain't right to be illegal and that's the main point. In the words of Bubba Sparks "get it right and get it tight" (paperwork).

ILLEGAL immigrants should LEAVE
Legal immigrants, of course get to stay.
What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand.
And you're a witch??
Let look at it this way, you own a house, A NICE house. You wake up one morning and there is a guy in your living room, he's broken in and has made him self rather comfortable in your house. He tells you that you are now going to have to take care of him because as he was breaking your window to get in, he cut his hand, you have to pay for the stitches. You also need to feed him. He likes your house SO much, he's willing to do the chores you don't like to do, like clean the toilets, wash the windows and weed the garden. YOU have to also take in his whole family, get an interpreter because he's NOT going to learn to communicate with you, you need to feed and clothe and provide healthcare for his whole family, AND you now can't get him out of your house.
Sound like a deal?

We've basically allowed them to enter the country, free of reprecussion, for 20 years.
Now, all of a sudden, everyone is up in arms about these people. Why??
Because the politicians need someone to beat up on.
Realistically, how would we "get rid" of the immigrants?? How much would it cost?? And who's responsibility would the enforcement of such laws fall to??
Serious questions that should be asked before any decision is made.

Yes, as long as they go through the proper steps to attain a green card or become citizens.
If they are here illegally, and have no intention of getting a work visa, or other documentation, then they should be deported. If they are caught here illegally a second time, they should be charged with a federal crime and extradited to the athorities of their home country.

Yes all of us americans or most of us were immigrants going way back.variety is the spice of life and this country is more then able to enjoy the benifits productive immigrants bring to this country.Of course our national security is our first concern but i believe that is the least of the worry concerning legal immigration.

Here's what I think needs to be done:
Illegals who are here now should register. All of them.
Any Illegals found, say, after 6 months of the registration due-date should be sent back to whence they came, because they failed to respect our laws and fulfill their end of the bargain.
It should be mandatory that each alien learn to read, speak and write English by enrolling in ESL classes. If they fail to do so, they need to leave.
It's all so simple. As soon as George Bush leaves office we can get this rolling.

If they're productive members of society, why not? I'd like to trade some of the lazy unproductive people that have always lived here for productive people from other countries. But I doubt they'd go for that. That's like saying, I'll trade you my crusty, smelly sweat sock for that t-bone steak. Yeah I know I have the t-bone steak...somehow it ended up on my table, but I really don't want this smelly, crusty sweat-sock, so you can have it. Take it!! Haha
