If you are talking about the US, then yes, we are a free country. Free in the way you are free from fear. Free to think and believe what you want.

That doesn't mean you can DO anything you want, but your ideas, thoughts and religious preferences are not subject to government oppression.

Here's where you have to be careful - your freedoms cannot infringe on the freedoms of others here.

I don't think there is such a thing as a completely free country. I wrote my law school thesis on the balance of freedom and security in countries around the world. It seems like the more secure a society tries to make itself, the more it restricts freedoms. Just look at us since 9/11. How would you have felt before then if you had to take your shoes off to get into an airplane? If we went into other countries and rounded up people, just to hold them indefinitely when we don't even try to "prove" that they are dangerous? If your phone conversations were monitored to see who you were talking to? I think we've a given up a lot of freedoms, even ones guaranteed us by the Constitution, because we decided that we could make ourselves safe that way. There's no proof that's it's really working, and frankly, I'd like to have my freedoms back, instead of being made to feel like a criminal.

Absolutely! Many think we are too free especially at this time of war with the men in the masks. Too much freedom can be very hurtful if you are trying to win a war. There are always certain things that the public should not know....just like in WW2. There was a clamp on total freedom of the press and radio. People didn't gripe then. This is a different age. Ok to burn the flag, cannot say God in the classroom, this is going in the wrong direction because it doesn't hurt anyone to mention God in the pledge of allegiance. What a screwed up America!

The US is compared to a lot of other countries. It isn't completely free, as far as buying things, but you can choose your religion, how many children you want to have, if you want to buy a house, if you want to buy a car, there are many countries that don't allow those things or put restrictions on them... so the land of the free? you bet, just have to spend some money for it...

It is the Land of the free, and we can say anything and do anything we want to. You just don't have to listen to those who can't help but way over exaggerate.
to even question whether this is a free country is funny.

USA is a sort of free country but not fully. There is a little corruption in the USA. Others such as Mexico well, here we saying that "we have the best freedom money can buy" because of the amount of corruption.

No. You're not allowed to ask that. And never, never criticize the president. Stay in your house and keep your thoughts to yourself....

Of course it's a free country.

The ability to question it makes it free. If you can ask this question without getting shot then it's free.

America? No.....you buy land but have a yearly property tax that keeps going up. You buy a car and have a yearly tax on it. You have a job ...work very hard.....get a check....and out comes state tax, federal tax, social security. You get your phone bill and you have state/local taxes on that.....how many times are we going to have to pay tax? We go tothe grocery store....taxes....clothes...tax. Seems like 80% of our check goes to paying taxes of some sort. so free country ....NO WAY!
