Ideally I want to be near La Rambla but am concerned it may be a little seedy around there. Can anyone recommend a good hotel which is near all the action and close to sites?

I stayed just a few blocks from the port end of La Rambla and I thought it was fine. Seedy yes but fine. I also stayed near the train station once and that was okay because it was quick to hop on and off the metro. I think next time I would stay somewhere on the beach close to La Rambla. Some of my friends have stayed there and really liked it. Bottom line is that you need to watch your wallet any where touristy in Europe.

Anywhere off La Ramblas, but towards the top end, it's not seedy at all. The closer you get to the port, the seedier it gets and keep your eye on your wallet. It's not as bad as it used to be, so relax and have a blast! I love Barcelona!!
