Is Islam / Islamic states truly tolerant of non muslims?

Just a question but if one day i were go to visit a muslim country...

As a non-muslim i should be able to freely and openly practice my religion of christianity. I should be able to ask their govenment to build a church for me. I should be able to ring my church bells aloud! My children should be able to proudly wear crucifixes in school. And along my other fellow christians we should be able dress down and not cover up (as our bible doesnt say we should) We should be able to express ourselves and indeed have freedom of speech, we should be able pork or beef freely and special provison in place so we can do this, Councils should bend to my every whim based on my religion etc...

If only this would be the case! You just know it wouldnt be in fact you'd probably forced to leave! So now convince me, is Islam (and Muslim states) truly tolerant of other religions?

If you are wondering, then just take a look around Enngland and you will see the evidence of non muslim tolerance!

of course not.

how can they be, theyre human, they are taught by their parents not to be. when a muslim cleric asks if a christian arab will die for his religion, as jesus did, do you think they are singing out of the same hymn book.

let's get real. it's not their fault. they are brainwashed into believing we are all the infidel, if we don't believe in the koran.

many muslims accept that there are many similarities in other faiths with their faith, and are tolerant of all other religions.

and those who are easily led are not.

those who allow other's to interpret the koran a certain way, rather than using their own minds, thoughts and following their hearts in love, not hate.

christians are exactly the same and can be the most intolerant of people. especially the borne again variety.

jews are exactly the same, they can be intolerant of christians as well as muslims. they won't be able to ride on the back of sympathy gained through the german concentration camps while they are treating other religions badly.

there are good and bad people in all demominations, all beliefs, all religions of every country, even athiests, agnostics, sunnis, hindus, catholics, protestants, presbyterians, jehovas witness', wiccas, mormons, spiritualists and every other belief system you can think of. And they are all cults, because they are all believing and following what they are told to, instead of examining their own heartfelt feelings and giving them houseroom in their brains.

You are totally right. You have every right to go to church, practice your religion freely and safely, proudly wear you crucifixes, wear what clothing you want, eat and drink what you want, but – aren’t Muslims allowed the same without any criticism?

Just as Christians have the total right to their dress code, why are Muslims criticized for theirs?
Just as Christians have the total right to proudly wear their crucifixes to school, why are Muslims criticized and banned from wearing the veil to school in France?

Who says that you cannot do that in Islamic / Arab countries? From you statement, it is obvious that you have not been in any Islamic countries, so why are you presuming you cannot do that?

In Islamic countries, Muslims, Christians and even Jews live together. Just as there mosques, there are churches – Nuns and priests walk in the streets and move about wearing their special apparels and crucifixes. There are bars, discotheques, swimming pools and the list goes on. My dear, from wherever did you get your information and assumptions? Exactly which countries are you referring to?

Islam allows you freedom of religion and is very tolerant and if you care I can recite Qura’nic verses that support this. Unfortunately many of the Islamic websites I have encountered provide very misleading information on Islam and total erroneous and inaccurate translation of the Qura’nic verses way out of their context and essence especially when it comes to women’s rights.

Islam has banned white slavery and teaches respect for women. In Islam, a woman goes by her maiden name even when she is married as a sign of her individuality. She has her own financial identity separate from her husbands to do with it whatever she wants. There is so much more that Islam has granted to women and people of other religions.

Please, check out your sources to learn more about Islam so that you may not be mislead by false information and if you need any help, many Muslims, including myself would be very happy to assist you.

Finally, give this a try and look at Yahoo Q & As - How many Muslims do you see attacking and criticizing non-Muslims and vice versa?

Yes in Britain we allow followers of ALL religions to freely express their religion and build their places of worship. However we haven't banned non kosher or halal meat and we haven't made it so that women have to cover up. I agree that perhaps Muslim countries might do themselves some good by building a few churches or synagogues (where these buildings will actually be used, not for the sake of it) but the remaining issues would be asking them to change their culture too.
