Do an intensive driving course, loads of driving schools do them and study the highway code like a demon!
I was lucky myself, I passed just before the theory test came in.
Theory test. I ask you! Any berk can memorise facts. The driving test should be like it used to be, about driving safely!

Practise loads! Also there are DVDs you can buy made by the DSA to help you (you can buy them in Smiths)
Theory Test DVD gives you all the questions and answers, you use it on the computer or DVD player and you can take mock tests and hazard perception tests theyr'e fab- helped me to pass first time. You can buy a set for around 30 quid, theory test, practical test and the highway code all as interactive DVDs.
Best of luck
