My own order of preference is:
- Local rescue operation or animal shelter
- Local breeder or keeper looking to sell/give away
- Local reptile dealer
- Local pet shop
Personally, there is no way I would mail-order Red-ear sliders (RES)- too much for shipping and no way to ensure quality. it is also REALLY stressful on the turtles.
Now- I am going to assume you did your homework and already know that RES are NOT easy pets (no turtle is!)- that all of the garbage about them being 'easy pets' is just an old sales pitch, right?
RES need:
- at least 10 gallons of water per INCH of turtle, and they get to 4" quickly, and mature at around 10. Do you have a tank or tub that can hold 40 gallons of water and still have space left for land space?
- water heating system that maintains 80, and a powerful filtration system that can clean up after these rather messy animals?
- lighting that simulates sunlight in intensity, wavelengths, and duration, and includes UV-B rays?
- basking sites that let the turtle get totally out of the water- some rocks, logs or rafts, and some beach, heated up to about 90?
- a supply of high-quality turtle or carnivorous fish pellets, not the cheap turtle flakes, lettuce, or hamburger.
I also hope you know that buying or owning baby turtles, under 4", is illegal in most places unless you have scientific or educational purposes for it.
With all of these caveats in place, RES can be great pets and live for 20 years.

Look up the care and the appropriate name before you get one. I have never heard of a red slider turtle...do you perhaps mean a red eared slider?

Please do your research on red eared sliders and then please do not buy one but adopt one. There are thousands of unwanted red eared sliders that need homes. My turtle rescue group has the hardest time placing red eared sliders because they grow so large.
Please check out this site:
http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/caresheet-red_ear_slider.htm
to see if a red eared slider is right for you and then contact a rescue to adopt one. You can find hundreds of RES on petfinder.com that are waiting for a good home.
**Note: Turtlesale.com is not a good place to buy a turtle from. They abuse their animals, they breed substandard animals, and they deliver animals in poor health. The mortality rate of turtles from this site is extremely high. They also deliberately breed blind turtles that end up starving to death because they can not see their food.

Most pet stores sell RED EARED SLIDERS. I just hope you don't think you can buy a baby one(baby turtles are illegal in most places)and keep it in a small plastic container with an inch of water and feed it lettuce. It will cost you at least $250-$300 to set up your turtle tank. They need lots of room..a fully submersible heater and filter, special basking lights, and special food. Please do lots of research(accurate research).
