I mean, whether it is 32K sim card, etc. Shouldnt the function of storage of phone numbers, etc be in a mini storage chip apart from the SIM card? The SIM Card should only function as path to the network, why it is doing double duty as storage? Isnt this a design flaw, if there were replaceable storage cards that would be a mobile accessories market in itself..

There is a mobile accesories market.

You can not tell just by looking, all sim cards look the same on the outside.

You can transfer contacts and mesages to the memory chip if u like, but by default, the sim card stores them.

How do you find capacity of a SIM CARD by visual inspection?!

Not sure what your meaning on this one.. Do you want to know how many phone book enteries you can store on the sim?! If so then the answer is going to be 200... You are going to also be able to store PB enteries on the handset as well..

The sim is needed to conect to the network that your on and holds details which allows you to make/receive calls/SMS and as i have said allows you to log on to that network ~ Without it, your phone will not work and you will not have a network to log onto...

If i am going down the wrong street on this then let me know exactly what your trying to find out!!!
