I am about to move onto a live aboard. already moored. I have a dog and a cat. I know the dog will be fine as he loves boating, but does anyone here live on a boat permanently and have a cat ? Any 'settling-in' advice please ?

here in the Islands there are dozens of live aboards with cats...cats love boats and you don't have to walk them!>>>When you first move aboard, bring the cats in use litter pan with you.......that way the cat ill know this is home"...stow it on deck, all the way aft so the smell blows away, and put a cover over it to keep the rain out..............my two cats never had a problem using it even when under weigh in the middle of the Atlantic.....

And drape a towel or a very thick rope over the side so the cat, when he/she eventually falls over chasing a bird or whatever, has something to climb back aboard on.......if the cats declawed, that's a problem for the cat wont be able to hold n well when yor sailing, or climb back aboard.....what I've seen people do here is tie a pool float astern so the cat can swim a few strokes to it, climb out and yowl at you I'm wet cold and NOT happy........Good luck!

wow! that would be scary with a cat. maybe, the cat would be okay since most cats don't like water.

my cats went from being indoor cats to outdoor cats when i got married. i kept the cats contained in a pet enclosure for about 2 weeks and then let them out. I wanted to get them used to their new surroundings. i still worry about them, but alas i am on land. they do stay pretty close to home.

Sounds relaxing! i could advise a chook like a cockatiel or Hahns Macaw. the two very friendly and loving birds. Any reptile could be reliable, offered you have the room for a tank. i could advise a bearded dragon, ball python, or leopard gecko. different achieveable ideas could be a small, laid lower back dogs, sugar gliders, chinchilla, or particularly any gerbil type creature. reliable success!
