It depends, I am in sales, and it is a cut throat business. If I don't sell, then I don't eat, and if I'm hungry then my principle's go out of the window. It is ok being sincere and honest, but there is no chance that I will risk my dog going hungry. I don't tell lies, because lies come back to haunt you, but if there is something that the customer does not need to know then I don't tell them.

It depends on your definition of success.

If by success, you mean a warm contented feeling inside, liking who you see in the mirror, a good reputation & standing in the community and the love of friends and family, then I think you are spot on...

...if however, you mean success as in having a lot of pieces of paper trapped in a metal box, guarded by people with guns, then no. To make a lot of money you have to screw a lot of people over.

I've seen social skills do more for people than what you've mentioned. You know, kiss up to the boss. Always easier than actually working or learning how to do your job well.

They would be very good traits, however you need to be a real hard **** sometimes as well to progress in life and get past the idiots.

throw in the ability to accept others without passing too much judgement and i think thats pretty much it.
