In general a constitutional concept (Fourteenth Amendment) that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without legal protection in the form of being present at a hearing, having the opportunity to be heard, and having the opportunity to present evidence.

What is wrong with your idea of the bullet process:
It only takes a few people with the same mindset(mob rule) and you have yourself a lynching(rope, bullet or whatever)

Are you in Thailand?

I live in Thailand and part of due process here does appear to be a bullet....

Annoy someobody here and sure, you may get a bullet.

But generally, in most "civilised" nations, due process is not a bullet, it is a night in the slammer!
