Sure. However, there are alot of "buts" here. If that "friend" is not single, or the feeling is not mutual then obviously there are different answers to your question.

Why ? Are you not loving him as a friend ? So u want to love him as a lover !! Ok but the feelings will naturally change. He will never be your friend after that. You may miss him as a friend. However you will get a lover. If you marry him, ALAS !! you will miss a lover and you will get a husband. Husbands are never lovers. To get something you will lose something. Decide what you what - FRIEND !! LOVER !! HUSBAND !! Place him and give him the status which you find right for your heart.

YES, it is good to love someone who has been a friend for a long time PROVIDED BOTH OF YOU ARE STILL SINGLE. Marrying a friend for a long time will be a blissful kind of marriage. Go for it. Don't forget to invite me ;) GOD BLESS YOU.

yes provided there is a sudden romantic sparks the kindle the love. however, this is unlikely since both of you have been friends for a long time. If there's romantic love, it would have happened a long time ago

*cringes* I hope you mean plutonic love. I've had it be something more a couple times and it never ended good. Trust me, satisfying that curiosity is not worth loosing your friendship.
