it is a difficult situation, the lawyer handling the divorce is my soon to be (hopefully) ex-inlaws (they said they would do it for free). my soon to be ex-husband is dragging his feet. i have moved out of state and have been told i have to have the divorce started in the state we were married in. so I was wondering if there was a way to find out on line with out actually contact my ex-inlaws (contacting them would cause EXTREME emotional trama) if my divorce went through. that or any advice on cross state divorce proceeding (California to Lousiana). thank you for the MUCH needed help

You made the biggest mistake on earth...... Inlaws as divorce lawyers??? You can get divorced in most states for under $200.00 Your ex inlaws are going to put in all these little loopholes, and adendums which will make your life a living hell. You should not trust them. Get your own lawyer to look over the papers before you sign anything.

Generaly if you google your entire name (including middle name) in quotes (example "Jane Lisa Doe" you will get a newspaper notice if your local paper posts those articles online. otherwise you can contact the court clerk and have them look up your status.
