I'm trying to bulk up, just started this week in fact, with the massive, healthy diet and low rep, high weight gym workouts. But someone has suggested on my relaxation days I still do a bit at home, like 50 press ups and 50 sit ups, and broomstick twists.
What I want to know is, if I'm lifting heavy weights every other day at the gym, is this mild exercise using only my bodyweight really going to help?!
Thanks!

Yes it is, it will help your body maintain its ability to take the weight training, of you dont do anything on relaxation days, you may do serious damage from doing nothing to dong a lot

well if you want to bulk up then you are doing the wrong routine anyway - heavy weight and low reps is the technique for building strength but it won't dramatically increase size
to bulk up you want a bodybuilding program which is basically high reps (sets of 10-12) with about 2/3rds of your maximum weight - this will generate larger more visual muscles but won't give maximum strength
so see what i mean look at the physiques of a weightlifter and a bodybuilder
either way, on your rest days you should be resting to give your muscles time to regenerate and recover - overtraining is bad and will slow your progress

If you're working to the max at the gym, pushing to failure with every set, you're definitely going to need every hour of your rest day to recover.
Trying to add something else in during your rest day is only going to lead to overtraining, and at the worst case you might even lose muscle mass and get de-motivated.
So use your work out days well, push hard and rest hard the other days. Besides, you want to do other things in life as well right?

It basically cardiovascular. It opens the blood passages more to help with that need blood supply to your muscle when working out. I'm on sort of the same low rep high weight workout and in my off days stretch, jump rope, or jog, anything that will increase my stamina and blood flow for when I really need it.

Well probably not depending on your body weight, if youre trying to bulk up. Just a suggestion if you do exercise on your relaxation days go for flexibility and stretching exercises. Ive only used weight training everyday with individuals who are extremely skinny.

You should not do the light stuff. Stick to your work out, and allow your body rest so that is can grow and recucooperate.
