Yes. I can't talk from my own experience but I heard a few things
- it is quite important for people in general to know that they can be attractive to the opposite sex and that they can have sex if they want to. (don't you feel that you want something more than you used to if you can no longer have it?)
- it does affect their self-image and self-esteem (the values/attributes by which they define themselves as persons - for a devoted priest is probably less important than for a sex symbol) One needs a certain level of self-esteem and a positive self image to stay within the borders of well-being and balance.
- it is a big loss and most people need a certain time and help to adjust to this phase of their life, especially because it is a time when they undergo a lot of losses - children leave, they leave their jobs and work friends, they are no longer "needed" strictly speaking...

Sex is not what should keep people together, If you love that person that you are caring for, although yes it may be hard to go without sex it isn't an issue. Besides, if the gratification is what your talking about that can still happen, if its the closeness that you are talking about that can also happen

i'm certainly over 18. Sex...is overated...and tends to be used not for love anymore...it's used for stress releases etc.....
I honestly believe intimatcy comes from with in and so does love. The sex will always be there....
