I always hear Republicans and so called conservatives say "ooh their providing support to the enemy because they don't see this war like I do". Is'nt it my God given right as an American to speak out against something I see as a mistake in war or anything else in this country or should I just shut up and not care if I think my leaders are doing wrong. Pretty much what they're saying is that they don't care that soldiers have died to give us a right to participate in our nation's actions, we should just shut up and stop acting like this is a democracy, why don't we just remake the stars and stripes into a hammer and sickle like some of these people want. It's bad enough we have to fight that kind of fascist garbage overseas, but we have to put up with it over here too, why don't these people realise what country they're in and just put up with it like we've been doing for the past 200 years. It kind of says something about the Republican party if you ask me.I say honor those brave souls

Our military is run the exact same way under either party. The way we conduct war does not change with which party is in office. Your right about your freedom of speech as well am I. One thing you have to understand. When you join the military you join to defend this country against enemies foreign and domestic. It's basically a contract that your obligated to fulfill. Most military personnel except this responsibility when they sign their name to join and believe it or not most are more than happy to be given the opportunity to perform their jobs in a combat environment. Please never shut up.....as you put it. Many men and women, past and present have died to give you your right to free speech. Speak your mind and never be afraid to be heard. That is the main reason we don't have a hammer and sickle on our country's flag.
Any way. I hope some of this answers your question. God Bless America, and I hope you get some answers that help change your feeling towards the way you feel about living in the freest country on earth.

It's called a distraction. Whip up a freanzy and drag it out so people don't pay attention to the real issues. The War On Terror works better than most because people feel unamericain to not support it and don't speak out as much. A good rule to go by when paying attention to politics is if the politicians are all talking about it in the media then it means nothing and is just there to distract you from issues like the horrible economy and lack of healthcare and such. It's sad to say but these days a good catch phrase will get you more votes than an actual plan to fix things.

The problem isn't that people speak out against the war. The problem is when people do it without first understanding what they're talking about. They end up cheapening their whole argument and usually insulting servicemembers.
Also, you cannot call this war a mistake and say that you support the troops. You cannot support someone while telling them that what they do is evil and wrong. You cannot support someone and say they are fighting and dying for a mistake and a lie. It takes away from their honor. It takes away from their sacrifice. And it is NOT support.

If you are not a republican what makes you think you know what republicans want? You can only speculate, right? So dont pretend you know things you don't, just say instead "you think", or "you believe".

And BTW, ur wrong. Republicans care a lot about how we fight wars. Too me, it seems Democrats are a bunch of wimps that have no stomach for battle. They will start a fight, but they dont have the will power to see it thru to the end. That will be the downfall of America as other nations see our weaknesses, and play upon them. We can have all the power in the world, but we are only as strong as our weakest link.

I say you are a spoiled little pup.You have no clue that outside of this country the cops don't arrest the bad guys, they are the bad guys. Our enemy is ruthless and has no respect for life. They butcher captives while the likes of you whine that Gitmo is torture. They bomb Iraqi civilians, women and children,on purpose, and you scream murder if a single citizen is killed in a fire fight.I my eyes you are an enemy sympathizer and as such should be jailed. You are a disgrace to every soldier that has ever fought for the freedom of this country.

I think it's the Liberals who don't care about the Americans as a whole, and the Democrats will only care about the soldiers if it'll win them votes.
It's every American's duty to rate their politicians performance and we can't forget we're the boss here and we vote who will be in office. and if they're just wrong for the job we have the power to get them out. You should never just shut up because when everyone just does that then they politicians will start to believe they in charge and not us and so they'll treat us in that manner. I say be a patriot and have your voice heard. That's why our founding fathers fought for us to have those freedoms.
People today in my opinion don't even seem like Americans, they don't even appreciate what we have, and what power we have. Everyone needs a wake up call seriously because if we won't fight for injustices then no one will.

I am against the war and do more to support our troops than just about anyone on here!!

Republicans neigh Fascist, don't fight wars. Pulling our troops out of that damn mess is the best thing we could do!! Iraq will never be democratic and it will probably end up worse than when Saddam was there!

AMEN BROTHER! I swear it does my heart good that more and more Americans are asking this same question. And to me, asking the question in the face of a bunch of... well might as well call 'em twenty-first century Tories... shouting you down and sticking to your guns in asking that question anyway IS WHAT BEING AMERICAN IS ALL ABOUT!!! It kills me, these people, some whom I am related to, that say our government has our best interests in mind. Puhleeeeeeze!! The reason why we ARE the United States of America and not England West is because, in part, OUR FOREFATHERS WERE SICK OF THE TYRANNY OF HAVING THEIR "BEST INTERESTS" DECIDED FOR THEM BY PEOPLE WHO CIRCULATED IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WORLD!
Sorry 'bout the yelling--I get a little impassioned on this subject. But keep on asking this question. Ask it a little louder each time you ask it until you're shouting it at the top of your lungs, join others of us who are shouting the same question, and pretty soon maybe they won't be able to drown us out with their "Un-American" blather.
