im getting a tatoo in a few weeks, on my lower back, all i can say it wll hurt no matter where you get it, it will hurt more, if you get in done where there is a bone, e.g-the spine, and tends to hurt a little less where thier is more flesh, but dont let this put you off, where you want to get it, i have been told that it does hurt, but doesnt hurt enough for you not to go back and get another one done, im getting a celtic design with a dark rose across my back, good luck, and go for it!

I have my name in Japanes tattoeed on my lower back, just above my bottom. I didn't hurt it was more like an annoying scratch and only tool 3 minutes, it's about 2 inches long by 1/2 inch tall.
The fleshier the area the better I am told, so Ankles are out. If you have any ideas on petterns go into a tattooist and look at their books, you will be amazing by the quantity. Think about what you want for a few months at least to make sure you definately want it. I'd advise not to get something that is linked to an era/ type of fashion because you may find you don't like it in a few years time and you are stuck with it.
The bigger the design the more it will hurt. And do not pick at it afterwards.

Well no matter where you get your ink done a fair amount of pain is always involved but you do want to stay away from muscles and bones ; the most painful places I can tell you are ankles , knees , shinbone, wrist , shoulderblades... The least painful place (I reckon) would be the upper inner arm or lower inner arm. I got my wrist inked the other day and it did hurt but it is just part of it innit????
So if this is yur first tatoo make sure it ain't too big and that... make sure you get your tatoo on a place that will no grow with time if you get me ( stomach and **** are always a bit dangerous as gravity always wins if you get me...) enjoy your tatoo and make sure you do not get something stupid such as "USA for ever"

Ive got 3 smallish tatoos. ive got one on the top of my thigh it isnt very big but that really did hurt. Then my other 2 are on the base of my spine just above my pant line. They didnt hurt at all. I have heard that if you have a tatoo on a fleshy part of your body that it does hurt, my step brother had a tatto going round the top of his arm like a band and he said the inside of his arm hurt for ages after. It depends how brave your feeing?

I have one on the base of my spine, a Chinese symbol, and I hardly felt it, just a mild sting. However, I then had a rose pattern extending across my lower back from the Chinese symbol and it hurt like hell, it brought tears to my eyes! I also have a devil on my a**, that was fine. Perhaps there is something to be said about having it on a fleshy part of the body, maybe it hurt on my lower back as it was on my kidney region, I don`t know. I am tempted to have another one though. Whatever you decide though, make sure you go to a reputable tattooist.

on a nice fleshy part of the body like an arm or stomach or sumthing, i had a tatoo on my lower back of a big abstract scorpion, it hurt like hell cos it was on the spine. I felt the needle vibrating up my back.
And make sure you go to a reputable parlour to ensure that its done properly and dosent get infected!

It all smarts a little but its more like a raw stinging pain. The most painful is anywhere where there is bone just beneath the skin.
I have my ring finger tatted w/ hubbys name, flames lower abdomin, skeleton right shoulder, cross right ankle
Ankle hurt the worst throughout the tat, shoulder burt quite a bit towards the top. Finger didn't hurt at all, abdomen felt raw for days.

It hurts the least on the top of the arm and the shoulder.... the bottom of the back is one of the most painful. I've got loads of tats.

I was told that it hurts less on fatty parts of your body (vs. bony parts like ankles)...
I have a daisy tattoo on the back of my shoulder. I got 7 years ago and wish I hadn't.
