I absolutely love horror movies and novels but i cant find ppl who are as passionate about them as i am. I've always had a fascination with violence and death. I'm terrified of it, yet i have to look it up. I've been that way since i was a child. I spent the first 13 years of my life certain that either Freddy or Jason would kill me as soon as i fell asleep. Now, i cant get enough of those types of characters. Anyone else feel that way? I'd really like to have a real conversation about the subject. Tell me why u love horror fiction. U can also throw in your favorite horror movie, if u want. Mine is the Exorcist, if that interests u. :)

Holy crap, kids! Thanks for the great replies! Keep 'em coming!
I've seen a few Japanese horror flix but they didnt really rock my world (i think they lacked the sense of fun of American and Canadian horror films). Candyman, Aliens, Cube, May and the severly underrated Exorcist 3 are other favorites of mine.
ofethrd1, i agree with absolutely everything u wrote, except the Amityville Horror (bored me) and the Grudge (laughed thru the whole thing, although love to make that strange noise over the phone).

Ahhh... you sound just like me about 10 years ago. When I was a kid, I loved horror movies with a passion. They'd scare me half to death and I'd watch'em again and again. I'd have to say my Mom got me going on them.

The 'occult' kinda movies scare me the most... "The Exorcist" kept me up the most nights... I swear I felt my bed move... slept on the couch for a few nights! Did you see the remake when she was crawling down the stairs on her hands and knees backwards??? I think I was scarred for life.

Did you see "Serpent and the Rainbow"? Imagine being buried ALIVE!

"The Ring" also scared the crap outta me... oh my... when she started crawling out of that TV I thought I would need years of therapy!

"Poltergeist" completely altered my view on clowns... that clown was soooo creepy! No wonder the kid wanted to cover it... and at the end when the Dad yells... "You just moved the headstones didn't you??? You moved the headstones... but you didn't move the bodies!!!!"

Remember "Raider's of the Lost Ark"? Near the end when the Ark was opened and all the Nazi's got killed... that freaked me out.

And I don't care what anyone says about "The Blair Witch Project"... it scared the crap outta me... maybe because I was older when I saw it. When they heard the kids running around outside the tent... OMG!!! or when Josh was screaming in the middle of the night... eeeek!!!

"The Others" is an excellent ghost story... a fabulous ending.

Speaking of ghosts, did you see "The Changeling"? If you like good ghost stories, that is a must see... it's kinda old, but I really recommend it!

I can't NOT mention Alien movies, Silence of the Lambs, Amityville Horror, The Grudge, Stir of Echos, The Sixth Sense, What Lies Beneath and Seven

In any case, I hope you stay brave enough to watch and enjoy horror movies... I'm jealous! Around the age of 25 I started getting too chicken to watch'em!!!!

I think I'll go snuggle my comfy blanky now.

You should try some Japanese horror movies. They are very strange and interesting at the same time. They're different from American horror movies because Japanese view death differently then we do...they're mostly psychological thrillers but usually have weird violence and lots of blood in them. Some of my faves are H, Audition, The Eye, Itchi The Killer, Hellivator, Dark Water, Snake of June, Ringu, and many more. My fave American horror movie is also the Exorcist and I really liked the first Ring(American remake).

Horror fanatic here!!! I absolutely LOVE horror movies. My first movie to see was Exorcist, while still in my ma's belly. Since then, I can't get enough. As a kid, Cujo was my most scariest movie, had to sleep with my sis and still can't approach a St Bernard dog without peeing myself. As soon as one hits the theater, I am there. My all time fav is hard to pick, I love so many... But if I had to choose, I would say IT by S. King. I think I like scary movies because I love the thrill of the scare.

Horror Films are great, they contribute the element of fear, distress, and horror. These are feelings that we hate, but love to feel if we know that it is temporary. I love horror films The Eye, Pulse, Ringu, are all good ones. I recently watched all The Nightmare and Friday the 13th movies they make me laugh but as a kid i too used to fear sleep or taking the trash out at night in fear that Freddy of Jason would get me. I am looking forward to the new Texas Chainsaw Film and the new Halloween film which Rob Zombie is directing.

Horror movies also attract my attention. I appreciate the story, the twists, the plot and the visual effects. The best horror-thriller movies I've watched are Amytiville Horror (the latest edition), The Exorcism of Emily Rose, House of Wax, The Ring, The Grudge...

if it's horror movies, i'm definitely one of the first people to go to the moviehouse, or rent dvds, or even buy them. right now, i love collecting horror films from the past decades as they interest me as well (actually, they kind of interest me more than the ones being made right now).

passionate? i'm not just passionate about. i can't think of a word to describe how i love watching horror movies. i'm not a violent person, but i find these movies more interesting than any other genre. it entertains me, gives me the thrills i'm looking for - it's a rush. from peter jackson (yeah... he was quite a gory fellow) to lucio fulci to george romero, i watch all the zombie movies i can. i love jason voorhees, michael myers, and who would forget freddy krueger? norman bates was a pretty interesting individual too and so is leatherface. slasher flicks, creatures, zombies, psychos, anti-christ, vampires, werewolves, i could go on and on forever.

john carpenter, wes craven, alfred hitchcock, you name it. i watch their movies. and right now, i'm into alexandre aja and eli roth too. but i also do watch asian films such as ringu, ju-on the grudge, dark water, infection, audition - japanese horror films. korean films? oh yeah, wishing stairs, acacia, memento mori, dolls, and the like. chinese films are quite nice as well - the eye, the eye 2, new blood are my favorites and also this thai film, shutter.

spiderman 2 has been the talk of the town as of late because of the recently released trailer but i'm not as excited as everybody else because i'm looking out for grudge 2, saw 3, hostel 2, texas chainsaw massacre: the beginning. i have been watching horror films since i was 3 or 4 and i've been really hooked and addicted ever since. i love them because i just simply do. my favorite movie is dawn of the dead (george romero) in the 70's. i know what you feel. have a nice day. :)

you can e-mail me at macky_o_mac@yahoo.com if you want to talk about stuff. :)

I love horror movies as well. I too, as a child was afraid that something would come and get me, but mine was bloody Mary. It never stopped me from watching the movies tho. My favorite horror flicks are anything with Michael Meyers. I like freddy Kreuger too but his movies dont thrill me like they used to. I actually think he's kinda cute lol j/k. I also like Jason. There arent really any movies out right now that I absolutely love and most movies that my friends find scary arent scary to me. I guess im just used to it now. I guess I would have to say that one of the scariest movies to me still to this day would be "CandyMan." I love that movie, but it still creeps me out. Oh wait now I really remember my all time favorite movie. "Dr.Giggles". Now that movie was really good. Pretty gruesome too, but I used to love it. As a matter of fact I think im gonna watch something right now...hmmmm.... : )
