Well the job I wanted to get said on the online resume that only 16+ were allowed to work there. So I skipped it and found another great job. But then I found out that a friend of mine (who's 15) got the Job by coming in personally to apply. Apparently the manager controls the age limit or something. So do individual stores have individual rules or something?

Can I go personally to a 16+ place and get the job just because the manager says so? I'm really confused, and I might of worded this a little bit wrong. Be very proud of yourself if you could desipher what im trying to say...

Managers do decide on their own what age they are willing to hire. The reason many say 16+ only is that children under 16 are governed by much stricter rules about employment and not allowed to work very many hours. 16 year olds have much more leeway, so they prefer to have them.

Indavidual stores do have their own sets of rules. However, depending on where you live you may have to get a parents approval or get a waiver from your state. Managers don't have total control, it's all about the state where you live. Look into your states labor laws and see what they say. If you need a waiver to get a job at 15 then go for it. If not then yes it's the managers sole decision.

I think I asked that same question when I was 15.

Fedral law actually controls it as a child labor law- and then it is also justified in type of work and age limit also set by the states.

as for not getting the job- LIFE LESSON in the job market- it is never fair......

Could be that the manager is bending the rules.

If you can get an interview, go ia and show a little cleaveage or some thigh. Your chances will be greatly improved ! Not nice, but true.

Depends on your state, some require work permits!

Check your state. Sometimes there are places you can't work at all!

Good luck!
