I thought David Beckham had given up the role of Captain. The newsis carrying on a if he has died. He hasn't actually retired, has he?

No - although I guess that reiring as captain is the beginning of the end.

I think he was a good captain (and perhaps there's not much else in the news today.)

This is bound to catch the headlines - the media goes mad when he changes his toothbrush.

The way I read it is that Beckham just want to give up the captain role and quote and unquote "time is right to pass on the armband" but he still is interested to play for England.......He really wants to reach that century appearances.

Beckham retired as captain, not as player for England.
And, of course, he will keep on playing for REal Madrid.

I think he felt that its just time to move on. He done his bit as captain for i think 6 years, so now the band will be passed on to the next person. I dont think he'll actually retire yet.

ofcourse not. he's not retired, he just gave up the band to other. defeat has its own way of affecting people
