Because they are not educated at home or in society. People are afraid of what they do not understand and I have also learned that sometimes racism and prejudiced is also considered someone being jealous.
I had a woman tell me I do not need 2 be at the beach because I was already dark & then she used the N word. I told her that she was in the sun trying to be as dark as I was & she needed 2 sue her dr because those shots in her lips were not working.
My tan was called carry all. I carry it all the time and my full lips were real. She looked so dumn founded after that.

There are still communities in the world that are rather isolated, especially rich communities. If everyone of every race lived together there would be no racism. As long as the 'foreigners' are over the other side of the world, people will never understand that everyone is the same.

I wish that racism and prejudice would no longer exist. My answer to your good question is fear. People who prejudge, exclude, and practice acts of hate against "other" do this out of fear that somehow these "other" people would dimish their own standards, status quo, and level of comfort, among other things. Fear is based on ignorance and leads to exaggerated and paranoid thoughts which leads to hate and hateful acts. The one way to try to obliterate hate is education, empathy, and tolerance ... but that's always easier said than done, especially in areas where racism has taken root for a long time.

Because we identify people by race and we treat races differently. People in every other country in the world see themselves primarily as native to the country they were born in. Take Italy, if a black person lives in Italy, he calls himself an Italian, and may add on that he is of African decent. If a black person lives in the United States, he calls himself an African American. If a white person lives in the United States, he calls himself a Caucasian or European American, if an person of Asian decent lives in America, he calls himself an Asian American, and so on. But no one just considers themselves as Americans. People are inherently ethnocentric in society. Americans do not identify with each other as Americans, but rather as sects within America. members of each sect believe themselves to be superior in some way to all others.

I always say racism exists out of ingorance. I have friends from every race, color, religion, and sexual preference. I look for commonalities rather than differences. Although differences can be really nice also. Racism is a choice. I CHOOSE not to be one. Besides, it is ugly, based upon stupidity and totally non-productive.

Racist people exist because they believe their lifestyle and values are threatened by people who do not share the same color, religion, ethnicity, language as they do.

Because people who cannot accept others, cannot accept something within themselves. These people need to make a life for themselves, find some happiness, motivation or direction in life. Then we'll see some changes.

Because the trashy racist parents brought them up that way, and then they'll bring their kids up that way. It's the dysfunctional cycle at work.
