do this ..................
right click on start button ->properties->click on taskbar tab->under taskbar appearence you will see that "auto-hide the taskbar "option would be checked and just uncheck this option...
yeah it has happened to me when i just started learning how to operate a mouse in computer centre and teacher asked me to find it .. i spent 2 days .... :)... i wish yahoo answer would have been available that time

Its most likely set to auto-hide. If you have Windows XP, all you have to do is right click the taskbar and select properties. When the window opens uncheck the second box down which should say something about the auto-hide feature

You probably have your taskbar on auto-hide, simply right click on the task bar and go to properties and then uncheck "autohide taskbar."

Right click on the taskbar and after wards select the lock taskbar thingy, it shouldn't disappear after this setting.

You have it set to autohide.
move your cursor to the bottom of the screen so that your taskbar comes up and right click on it. click properties, and then remove the check mark from the box that says autosize.

you could restart explorer via doing: - cntl + alt + delete - open activity supervisor - click on document -> new activity - enter explorer.exe If explorer keeps to crash, you need to have a greater severe concern.
